HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

The CHS Veterans Ring of Honor Project

The CHS Veterans Ring of Honor project is the second of its kind in Chico and has its roots in the vision of two high school students several years ago who envisioned a Veteran’s Appreciation area at Pleasant Valley High School. Principal John Shepherd (a Rotarian at the time) reached out to the Chico Noon Rotary Club, who put together a project team. After major work by many parties, the project was completed.

Almost immediately upon completion, we were approached with requests for a similar project at Chico High School. Chico Noon Rotary chose supporting Student Veterans for its 2018-2019 primary project focus, and Leanne Chrisman, President, committed $10,000 to begin the process of completing a Veteran’s appreciation area at CHS.

A team was assembled, and work began on the best ways to move ahead, learn from the PV High School Project, and create a great Veteran’s Ring of Honor project at Chico High School.

This team includes members from:

  • CHS
  • Rotary
  • Chico Unified School District
  • Veterans who graduated from Chico High School
  • Financial oversight, and technical/website support from Rotarians and CHS graduates.

The team is excited to present this opportunity for any Veterans who have attended high school in Chico to be honored in this appreciation area.

The site will be accessible to the public. The proposed location, just outside the Chico High School Stadium, is shown here.

The goal is to dedicate the site on Memorial Day 2020, but allow for names to continue to be submitted and added for several years to come.
